Day 5: Lifter Goes Nuclear

Amarillo to Albuquerque, New Mexico

Day five took us out of Texas and into New Mexico, with a few more Route 66 landmarks along the way.

First stop was Adrian, Texas, home to the exact midpoint of historic Route 66. That's 1,139 miles to Chicago and 1,139 miles to Santa Monica. Halfway across America!

Then it was over the state line into New Mexico and on to Albuquerque, where we called in at the Sandia Peak Tramway, famous for its spectacular views of the mountains and city below.

We finished the day at the National Museum of Nuclear Science & History, where the Lifter went nuclear! Quite a change of scenery from the roadside attractions of Route 66.

Five days in, and the Route 66 adventure keeps getting better.
