Day 6 – Standing on a Corner in Winslow, Arizona!
Day six took us from New Mexico into Arizona, with a little Hollywood history, some spectacular scenery and a song we couldn't get out of our heads.
First stop was the historic El Rancho Hotel in Gallup, New Mexico. Once a favourite haunt of Hollywood stars filming Westerns in the region, it's a little piece of movie history right on Route 66.
Crossing into Arizona, the Lifter received a rather wild welcome, with a reminder of some of the desert's less friendly residents — snakes and creepy-crawlies included!
Then it was on to the Petrified Forest and Painted Desert. Millions of years of history, ancient fossilised trees and landscapes painted in extraordinary colours. The scenery really does have to be seen to be believed.
And finally, one stop we absolutely couldn't miss. As the Eagles famously sang, "standing on a corner in Winslow, Arizona."
So naturally, we had to do just that! A little tribute to Take It Easy, one of the great American road trip anthems, and a fitting way to round off another memorable day on Route 66.
Las Vegas and FABTECH 2026 are getting closer!
